Shared or separate bathroom?

It seemed that a combined bathroom was a solution only for small apartments, but recently designers have increasingly advised this method in spacious houses. Why? We analyze all the pros and cons of combined and separate bathrooms.

Combined bathroom.

Advantages.

1. Space saving. The absence of a wall between the bathroom and the toilet increases the useful area - all the required furniture can be placed in a spacious room, a custom-shaped bath or bidet can be installed. Or you can carve out a few extra square meters for the kitchen, corridor, built-in wardrobe or dressing room.

2. Save money on repairs. Demolishing an extra wall will allow you to spend less not only on finishing its two sides, but also on the second door.

3. Convenience of one door. A new one follows from the previous paragraph - an extra door can create inconvenience due to the layout, two doors can block each other or a corridor. In addition, when redeveloping the bathroom, the door can be moved to the optimal location.

4. Choice of design. In a larger area, you can embody more ideas - from finishes and mirrors to the location of plumbing and furniture.

5. Convenience of hygiene procedures. Often in apartments with a separate bathroom there is no washstand in the toilet, which makes it less convenient. In the case of combination, you do not have to go from the toilet to another room.

6. Ease of cleaning. One room with well-placed plumbing is much faster and easier to clean than two.

Flaws.

1. Queue. If there are more than three people in the family, then a queue is inevitable. Resting and relaxing in the bath becomes an almost unrealistic task - only when loved ones are not at home or everyone is already asleep.

2. Smells. Unpleasant odors are a problem in any toilet, and even the best air fresheners cannot always cope with them. Of course, they can spoil the mood of relatives who are about to take a bath.

3. Lack of space. If the bathroom is combined for the sake of adding space in other rooms, then the area can turn out to be very cramped. You may even have to abandon the bath in favor of a more practical shower.

4. Coordination of redevelopment. First, you will have to tinker with the bureaucracy a little - the demolition of the wall must be coordinated with the BTI, otherwise it may be difficult to sell the apartment later.

Separate bathroom.

Advantages.

1. Lack of queues. You do not have to wait for loved ones, especially in the morning and evening hours. In addition, in addition to accessibility, privacy also increases.

2. Less ventilation and odor problems. A large combined room is more difficult to ventilate than a small separate one. The bathroom, located between the toilet and the kitchen, will prevent unpleasant odors from entering the latter.

3. Availability of redevelopment. Separation of the bathroom does not require special permits, you do not need to contact the BTI.

4. The ability to calmly take a bath. If you like to lie in warm water for a long time, then with a separate bathroom, the likelihood that someone will interrupt your vacation becomes much lower.

5. Design. It is difficult to implement many ideas in one room - chaos can result, but in two different ones you can create styles that are opposite to each other.

Flaws.

1. Lack of space for the required furniture. There is a possibility of problems with the placement of not only additional equipment (boilers, bidets, etc.), but also a washing machine. You will have to look for places in other rooms, for example, in the kitchen, or use models of non-standard sizes - narrower ones.

2. Cost and area. The point, the opposite of the dignity of the combined toilet, is that decoration and repairs will cost more, two rooms with a partition will take up more space.

3. The inability to deploy the toilet. Usually the room of a separate toilet is quite narrow, so it is not always possible to place the toilet in a position that is convenient for you.

We have listed the main pros and cons, you just have to deal with individual preferences and features of the layout of the apartment. And, of course, start the repair itself.
